Show Your Appreciation To The Person Who Helped You Into This Great Hobby, With The Elmer Award
Elmering or mentoring has long been the backbone of Amateur Radio. While technology constantly evolves, the human interaction between hams will not be replaced and will always remain one of the hobby's strongest traditions. As licensed hams we are all ambassadors of Amateur Radio and we should always be looking at ways in which we can welcome newly licensed hams and project a positive image that will attract others to ham radio.

Sevier County History

Great Smoky Mountains

When attending our Hamfest , Sevierville is a great place for the Family as well, to enjoy while at our Hamfest.

Founded in 1795 and incorporated in 1901, Sevierville, (pronounced Se-VEER-ville) was named for John Sevier, the first governor of Tennessee. It is the oldest and largest of Sevier County’s four cities and is the eighth oldest town in Tennessee. More than just a beautiful place for a vacation, Sevierville is a community with a proud heritage and history. One of its most enduring symbols is the classic white clock tower on the 105-year-old Sevier County Courthouse with a clock that strikes every half hour in the time-honored tradition. The statue of Dolly Parton on the courthouse lawn was sculpted by local artist Jim Gray and unveiled by Miss Parton herself on May 2, 1987, with her parents in attendance. There’s also a statue on the courthouse lawn in remembrance of our veterans. About 200 years ago, Sevierville was no more than a small rural community with one church, two mills, one tavern, one trading post, two lawyers and a stable for a courthouse. It was a stopping off point for settlers heading West toward the frontier, and as East Tennessee was settled, Sevierville became an important trading and commercial city. The city celebrated its bicentennial in 1995.  Sevierville, the county seat of Sevier County, is the first city many people see when they arrive in the Smokies. Just minutes from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Sevierville combines a relaxed hometown atmosphere with ready access to hundreds of vacation attractions and recreational opportunities. Over the years, Sevierville, as the county seat, has known five different courthouses, with the last being built in 1895-96 for $22,000. The courthouse was later renovated in 1970-74 for $577,000 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places

Sevierville is located in a picturesque valley at the foot of the Smokies. Take Exit 407 off Interstate 40, about 18 miles east of Knoxville. For a more scenic route, try U.S. 441 South from Knoxville or 441 North from Cherokee, N. C. U. S. 411 also connects through Sevierville and provides a journey through the East TN foothills. Knoxville’s McGee/Tyson Airport is about an hour away, with over 90 commercial flights a day. The Sevierville-Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Aviation Center can accommodate a variety of private aircraft and has full service and maintenance facilities.

Sevierville has preserved its southern charm and the quaint personality of a small, historic town. The atmosphere in Sevierville is friendly, relaxed, and fun. . And the entire downtown area encompasses Sevierville’s historic district, where a walking tour unfolds the history of the nation and its expansion westward.Sevierville also keeps the modern traveler in mind, with accommodations ranging from family motels to romantic mountain hideaways. Shopping is some of the best in the Southeast. Offerings range from mountain crafts to antique emporiums to outlet malls featuring famous brands. There are restaurants for any taste, from fast food to fine dining, and outdoor activities include tennis, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and golf, and much  more !

Sevierville is one of those rare cities where you can honestly say that it’s a nice place to visit — and live. It’s often been called “your hometown in the Smokies.”

I would suggest booking early for most of these......

From A Ham's Wife !

.A Lurker's Listening Perspective !

By Mrs Allen /KJ4KKV Wife

For those of you who must live most of our lives,

Within the confines of our homes,

Life can be sometimes depressing,

As we realize what use to be our normal life,

Might partly forever be so sadly gone.

But one thing that's encouraging,

And can lift a heavy heart,

Is listening to a bunch of Ham's

Who in ordinary everyday conversations,

Can Definitely Ham It Up A Lot !

And yes there are rabbit holes, train wrecks,

And once in awhile a difference of opinion,

But things that are based on comradery, and compassion, care and concern,

Can sometimes work out to eventually be a valuable life lesson learned,

And so to all the Ham's out there...

The repeater owners, Lunch Bunch Crew, nets, and all,

You never know what kind of light you might create in someone else's eyes,

By just pushing a button and sending along,

A heartfelt friendly and caring hello.

Dedicated to all the Ham's who are striving to make the world a better place..

(this really hit a spot in my heart, when she gave it to me, for you all who don't know this great lady, I suggest you talk to her, 3rd party or in person)

Irma's 2nd Poem

.Evenings With Irma

As one may come across this little poem, It's hoped they will genuinely find, Its' done with sincerest and greatest respect, All about people who are definitely one of a kind.

Being a HAM I am learning, it's for some a valued goal, Something they will treasure forever, Whether young, middle or edging towards the later fold.

Each one will have their own special memories, Which transports them back in time, It could be months or years , But it is always interesting from those I hear.

Building antenna's, verticals, wire or beam, using different materials which hopefully make a seam, Successes and failures, sometimes it's the luck of the draw, To make sure the SWR's are gone or as low as they can go.

Discussion of brand name HAM Radio's is always unique, For every Ham has their own particular pick,For whatever rhyme or reason.

To explain a little , I have been a lurking listener , For the last few months or so as health hasn't always been so kind, And distraction of positiveness has been appreciated to find .

And most every chance I've turned the radio knob on, Connected it to HAM Radio, I have been able to listen and have sometimes been amazed, or surprised , about a few things I have learned, And so thankful that there is some people in this crazy world, Who are still willing to show some care and genuine concern.

And on some occasions, when things have gone completely awry, I've found myself laughing, until I've actually broke down and cried.

And once in awhile, as I have listened, and hear people chime in, It's always made my day, To hear someone say from coming in from outside the area say, Just passing through and heard your net , and just thought I'd check in..

Irma
